Senator Bernie Sanders wrote a tweet about numbers of americans who are pro legalization of marijuana. He claimed the following:

Claim 1:

“Nearly 7 in 10 Americans support marijuana legalization”

Fact Check 1:

According to a recent survey conducted by the respected General Social Survey, a record 61.5 % of Americans said in 2018 weed should be legalized. Business Insider reported. This is corresponding with the result – 62% – of a survey by the Pew Research Center conducted in Sept. 2018.
CBS NEWS POLL reported in April, 2019 that 65% of Americans voted pro legalization.


Claim 2:

“majority of both Republicans and Democrats—support marijuana legalization.”

Fact Check 2:

According to business insider, which cites general society survey ” Democrats (69%) and independents (66%) were largely in favor of legalizing weed. Only 42% of Republicans agreed”
