Theresa May has retained her leadership of the ruling Conservative party in Britain, after 200 of the party’s 317 MPs voted for her to remain in charge.

Addressing reporters outside of 10 Downing Street, Mrs. May promised to deliver the Brexit “that people voted for”.

A vote of no-confidence was called earlier in the day, after the required 48 letters from Conservative MPs indicating their loss of confidence in Mrs. May were received.

She is now protected from another leadership challenge for a year.

In a speech just prior to voting Mrs. May did promise to stand down prior to the next scheduled election in 2022.

The Prime Minister still faces challenges from both inside her own party and from political opponents as she tries to have her Brexit proposal pass Parliament, despite delaying the vote on the proposal that was scheduled for December 6.

Conservative Brexit advocate Jacob Rees-Mogg has accepted the confidence vote result, but has said that “Theresa May should still meet the Queen and resign.”

Labour frontbencher Rebecca Long-Bailey has said that Labour will table a no-confidence motion in which all MPs of any party will be able to vote, when they feel they have a chance of winning the vote and forcing a general election.
