The Chinese government is ramping up an international publicity campaign to counteract foreign criticism of its policies in the western province of Xinjiang, according to Reuters. The spin efforts include courting foreign media and writing opinion pieces in international outlets, according to Reuters.
Beijing said foreign criticism over its treatment of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang amount to misinformation and framed its crackdown in Xinjiang as an effort to combat Islamist extremists.
