    I think we should publish this report without categorizing it, it’s very fair that we provided the overall context regarding the data, but we still can’t argue that Senator Dianne Feinstein used the term of assault weapon precisely as it has been used in other reports and studies.

    Key thing here is the definition of assault weapons.

      Even if all school shootings in the last 18 years were from assault weapons, it still wouldn’t be “hundreds”. Also, no definition of assault weapons would classify handguns or pump action shotguns or bolt action rifles as assault weapons but these weapons are often used in school shootings.

    I find this fact check interesting in that it points out how easy it is for politicians to play on fear-mongering to advance certain agendas. The nature of the number of mass shootings is something to considering, but that is no excuse to grossly exaggerate said number in the name of an agenda.
