'I think it's embarrassing for the country to allow protestors' - Trump

U.S. President Donald J. Trump has criticized “protesters” in a media interview, questioning why they would be allowed to act as they did.

In an Oval Office interview with news website The Daily Caller, published on September 4, President Trump (in the context of the confirmation hearing of Supreme Court judicial nominee, Brett M. Kavanaugh, who was, according to The Washington Postgreeted by protests at the hearing itself) is quoted as stating:

“I’m amazed that people allow the interruptions to continue. There [are] some people that just keep screaming.”

“In the old days, we used to throw them out. Today, I guess they just keep screaming.”

The president is then said to have “praised Senator Orrin Hatch’s condemnation (IJR) of the protestors from the hearing” and is further quoted as stating:

“I don’t know why they don’t take care of a situation like that. I think it’s embarrassing for the country to allow protestors. You don’t even know what side the protestors are on.”

“To allow somebody to stand up and scream from the top of their lungs — and nobody does anything about it — is, frankly … I think it is an embarrassment.”

The First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America states the following:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
