Senator Cory Booker faced possible expulsion from the U.S. Senate after releasing confidential documents relating to Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. The documents are emails sent between Kavanaugh, White House staff, and the Department of Justice during the George W. Bush administration.
In many of the emails, Kavanaugh entertains the idea of using racial profiling as a way to prevent terrorism after the September 11 attacks in 2001. Though he never wholeheartedly supports the practice.
What Kavanaugh said in these released documents?
- On January 2002, Kavanaugh says he supports a “race-neutral” system for security screenings, but then goes on to say that officials need to be allowed to use effective techniques at their disposal in the “interim,” until such a system is developed.
