South Dakota trailer crash kills passenger

A 36-year-old man was killed in a semi-trailer crash near the city of Bonesteel, in the U.S. state of South Dakota, according to South Dakota Highway Patrol (SDHP).

On Monday, SDHP released the names of those involved in the single vehicle incident on August 30. Jagdish Singh of Edmonton, Canada, was the passenger in a 2014 Volvo semi-truck and trailer traveling on U.S. Highway 281 when the driver, 32-year-old Gurpreet Brar, lost control and the vehicle rolled into a ditch.

Singh was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, said SDHP.

Brar, also of Edmonton, was wearing a seatbelt and suffered serious non-life [threatening] injuries. The authorities are now investigating the crash and charges are pending against the driver.
