Brazil shocked by disastrous fire in national museum

Brazils’ National Museum in Rio de Janeiro has been razed. An estimated 20 million objects could have been destroyed.

The cause of the fire, which started at the weekend after the museum closed, is not yet known.

Artefacts including what is believed to be the first human remains found in South America were housed in the 200-year-old premises (Guardian).

President Michel Temer on Twitter described the loss as “incalculable”.
