Gunman kills two at video game tournament in Florida

Two people have been killed after a gunman opened fire at a video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, on Sunday, the local sheriff’s office said.

CNN reported that a gunman killed two people and wounded nine others. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office identified the gunman as 24-year old David Katz, of Baltimore, Maryland, who took his life after the shooting.

“Stay far away from the area. The area is not safe,” the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said on Twitter. “We can’t stress enough to stay away. Many blocks away.”

The shooting was partially captured on a livestream of the Madden NFL gaming tournament.

The sheriff’s office said its deputies were finding many people hiding in locked areas of the restaurant.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the shooter was a gamer who was competing in the tournament and lost.

The news organization corresponded with one of the competitors Steven “Steveyj” Javaruski via Twitter direct message.

Javaruski told The Times the gunman shot at least five victims before killing himself.
