On his Instagram account Donald Trump Jr. shared a screen shot from CNN comparing President Donald Trump’s approval rating with that of his predecessor, Barack Obama. On August 3, he also retweeted a tweet claiming Trump’s approval rating was at 50 percent ( The post on Instagram has been deleted, but a screen grab is shown below).
Amazing. I guess there is a magic wand to make things happen and @realdonaldtrump seems to have it. #maga #amreicafirst

APPROVAL RATINGS Trump: 50% Macron: 36% May: 30% Merkel: 29% This, despite a global media that is 90%+ adversarial to Trump. Incredible.
Did CNN really show Trump’s approval rating at 50 percent?
Fact check: False.
The screenshot shows CNN took its figures from pollsters Gallup, but statistics published by that group show Trump’s approval rating consistently below 50 percent, and closer to 40 percent on the day in question.
CNN’s website is carrying the original video from which the screenshot was taken. The video shows Trump’s approval rating at 40 percent, suggesting the image Trump Jr shared was edited to display inaccurate figures.
