The gunman fired from the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas Strip casino into an open-air music festival nearby. The country musical festival, Route 91 Harvest, was attended by 40,000.

Police said the attacker was shot and killed by officers. Earlier, Sheriff Joseph Lombardo of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department described the suspect as being a local man who acted alone.

NBC News, citing law enforcement officials, named the man as Stephen Paddock, 64. Police did not publicly identify the shooter or offer any information on a potential motive.

Police said they are looking to question a woman named Marilou Danley in relation to the investigation. Police have located two cars thought to have belonged to the suspect.
