New report warns of malicious use of AI

A new report called The Malicious Use of Artificial Intelligence warns of the potential threats of AI if used by rogue states and criminals.

The 26 authors of the report included staff from research firm OpenAI, digital rights group the Electronic Frontier Foundation, American non-profit organization the Center for a New American Security, and Future of Humanity Institute, a multidisciplinary research institute at the University of Oxford.

They said that those designing AI systems should think about the ethics of artificial intelligence and do more to reduce possible misuse of the technology and issued four high-level recommendations.

The report calls for those in the field to think about regulation as well as closer collaboration between policymakers and researchers.

The authors warn that AI could potentially turn drones into weapons and bots could create realistic videos for political manipulation.

AI is a rapidly advancing field and society currently seems unprepared to prevent such possible attacks, said the report.
