The police department in Dallas, Texas has charged a police officer with shooting and killing a 26-year-old man, Botham Shem Jean, in his apartment on Thursday, September 6.
CNN reported that the officer said she thought she was entering her own apartment, and believed Jean was an intruder. Jean was a native of the Caribbean state of St. Lucia, but had studied and worked in the U.S.
Dallas police chief Renee Hall said the officer had been tested for drugs and alcohol (Dallas News).
The New York Times reported that the accused officer is Amber Guyger, 30. She was charged with manslaughter and released on bail of $300,000 (€259,000).
