This is a story under construction which is open to you to TALK about or CONTRIBUTE to.

The U.S placed new sanctions on North Korean missile developers, Kim Jong-sik and Ri Pyong-chol both of whom are reportedly prominent figures within Kim Jong Un’s ballistic weapons development program..

Ri Pyong-chol and Kim Jong-sik are now both blacklisted, which means any U.S. assets they have will be frozen. NPR noted it is not immediately clear whether either of them own any U.S. assets.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who has made an offer to mediate between both nations, told U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson that “Washington’s aggressive rhetoric” was unacceptable in a phone call on December 26.

I am working on adding context to this piece. Specifically, I’m working on answering the following questions:

Who are Kim Jong-sik and Ri Pyong-chol?

Exactly how many sanctions are there against North Korea and why haven’t they seemed to affect its ability to develop missiles and nuclear bombs?

Hi Eric, that would be extremely helpful. Any new information on Kim Jong-sik and Ri Pyong-chol would help us better understand their importance. Perhaps you could start with small biographies of each?
