U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia has issued a preliminary injunction against the Trump Administration’s ban on transgender people serving in the military, USA Today reports. The preliminary injunction is in effect while the court continues to review the case.

However, the judge denied the plaintiff’s motion to block the ban on funds for gender reassignment surgery.

Trump had previously announced in a memo that he planned to reverse a 2016 policy implemented by the Obama Administration that allowed troops to serve openly as transgender individuals.

It’d probably be a good idea to credit the pictured subtitled “Protest Trans Military Ban, White House, Washington, DC USA”.

  2. Rewrite

    > Title: Federal judge blocks Trump transgender ban

*Federal judge blocks Trump transgender *military* ban

Without being specific it appears unecessarily more inflammatory.

Agreed. Banning from military service is much different than banning transgender people. Might even be worth mentioning the reasons for the ban or referencing something like this Wikipedia article https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender_people_and_military_service?wprov=sfla1

Brian, thanks for this. I made no changes other than making clear the attribution to USA Today. Our proposed source list which we work on but you can use as a guide is here: https://www.wikitribune.com/project/sources-where-wikitribune-staff-look-first/
    Thanks so much, Peter
