Job description: Community Journalism Engagement Liaison
WikiTribune is launching a new MediaWiki (the freely licensed software used by Wikipedia) platform to support our mission of high quality and neutral factual news. As such, we are looking for a new enthusiastic individual to join our team to work in our community journalism engagement team. There is an additional possibility to help with some of the office management if the fit is right and it makes sense.
The role will include both content seeding, community editing support, and customer support more generally. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the team as well as with our Founder, Jimmy Wales (who also founded Wikipedia). This role is for someone keen to get involved with a small startup who are trying build an exciting new journalism platform. We are looking for someone who is not afraid to get involved with all aspects of the organization and be part of our growing team.
Some of the expected roles might include –
– Community support – both on-wiki and off-wiki
– Customer service – OTRS/Zendesk
An absolute requirement is deep knowledge of “the wiki way” including extensive experience with MediaWiki, including the use of templates, modules, gadgets, etc. While this is not a developer role per se, the more you know about and can effectively support users doing advanced technical mediawiki work, the better.
A lesser requirement – desired but not required – is experience/education in journalism.
We are based in central London, and although a London or at least UK based person is slightly preferred, the position is open for remote work worldwide depending on the particular candidate’s experiences and requirements.
