Homepage Algorithm

W.I.P. / Feedback Welcome

Update: There have been discussions around various ways this can be improved and customised and now there is a survey which you can fill out which only takes a few minutes and will give a strong indication as to which areas need addressing as a priority:

Homepage sorting method

This is is to determine how much importance should be assigned to updates. The answers you provide will help improve the way the feed is presented and are valued tremendously. Please rate the relevance you would apply to each of the following scenarios.

Our homepage selection is aimed at striking a balance between freshness and quality.

As of June 2018, there are six criteria which can be configured for the different tabs.

  • Minimum Characters in TITLE (set to 0)
  • Minimum Characters in TEXT (set to 50)
  • Minimum Comments  (set to 0)
  • Minimum Versions/Edits (set to 1)
  • Minimum Users/Contributors  (set to 1)
  • Minimum number of days of membership for author (set to 4)

Each of the above is given a point if a condition is met.

Finally, we have another variable: Minimum number of met conditions (set to 4) meaning none of the above are mandatory but must have at least four of the six applicable.

If you have any ideas you’d like to contribute then, by all means, please do so.  You don’t have to be technical about it but, of course, any technical suggestions are also welcome.
