In a <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2017/12/05/dhs-announces-progress-enforcing-immigration-laws-protecting-americans">statement from the DHS</a> released in tandem the same day as the report last year then Deputy Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Ronald Vitiello said "We have seen historic low numbers this year - an almost 30 percent decline in apprehensions in FY17"  In a <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2017/12/05/dhs-announces-progress-enforcing-immigration-laws-protecting-americans">statement from the DHS</a> released in tandem the same day as the report last year then Deputy Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Ronald Vitiello said "We have seen historic low numbers this year - an almost 30 percent decline in apprehensions in FY17".
