How can WikiTribune better cover this topic? Voter fraud is extraordinarily rare. Yet 34 states have some form of a voter identification law to combat impersonation at the ballot box. Trump and the majority of Americans believe see these laws as a positive, but many see these laws as designed to prevent people from voting, in particular people of color and poor residents.

While the risk of voter fraud is low, several states have adopted voter identification laws as a way to to prevent impersonation. Democrats are the fiercest critics of voter ID laws. Besides voter fraud not being a serious issue, they see these laws as purposefully targeting Democratic voters. The fees and time needed to get a government ID are two resources that poor, minority and other typically Democratic demographics are less likely to afford. Democrats are the fiercest critics of voter ID laws. "As Republican politicians try to make it harder to vote, Democrats are working to expand access to the polls," reads an official Democratic party statement on voter ID. "As Republican politicians try to make it harder to vote, Democrats are working to expand access to the polls," reads an official Democratic party statement on voter ID.
