PONCHATOULA, La, USA – An Alabama fan was fatally beaten early Sunday morning, Nov. 4, in a Louisiana bar following the Alabama vs. LSU game.
According to WBRZ 2, police were called to the Ponchatoula pub in response to a bar fight (WBRZ2).
The victim, Robert Bowers, 46, of Louisiana, suffered serious injuries after being knocked unconscious by two other men. Bowers received immediate medical attention from a volunteer firefighter until an ambulance arrived.
Bowers was then transported to the hospital and remained on life support until he was taken off Tuesday.
Azia Crocket (left), 27, and Ryan Anthony (right), 24, have been charged with felony manslaughter after turning themselves in.
The bar fight was not over the football game, according to a tweet from WDSU reporter Michael Vinsanau.
“[Ponchatoula’s Police] Chief said the fight began over an incident involving Bowers’ niece, who was intoxicated. Heartbreaking still, but not over football,” Vinsanau said.
The confrontation is what led to the fight that left Bowers unconscious.
Bowers was an Opp, Ala., native and a resident of the Ponchatoula area.
A Facebook fundraiser was started by friends and family to help with hospital and other fees following the death.
