Vietnamese president Tran Dai Quang dies at 61


Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang has died at a military hospital. He was 61.

The BBC reports that he had been suffering from a serious illness for several months and had received medical treatment abroad and in Vietnam.

He was sworn into office in the communist country in 2016, after a role as public security minister.

The role of president in Vietnam is largely ceremonial.
