Woman stabbed to death by Facebook stalker in Indore, India


A 25-year-old woman has died in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh after a man who was stalking her on Facebook stabbed her 38 times. The man is in custody and has been charged with murder.

According to the Times of IndiaSuoriya Jain died in hospital, in the city of Indore, around 6:30 a.m. on September 14.

The accused, Kamlesh Sahu, allegedly lay in wait for Jain for days after stalking her on Facebook. He struck the moment he found her alone and stabbed her 38 times with a sickle that he had bought from a bazaar in Indore. The incident took place in front of CHL Hospital.

Sahu claimed that he had been trying to gain Jain’s love since high school and couldn’t bear to see her “adopt a modern lifestyle and make male friends.” (Hindustan Times)

Police say that on the night of September 13, Sahu followed Jain down a lane near her office and grabbed her by her hair and pushed her to the ground.

Sahu then pulled out a sickle in public and began to attack Jain. When she screamed for help, two men ran toward her, but Sahu swung the sickle at them, threatening to kill them if they came near.

The men found a nearby police van and shouted for help. When police arrived on the scene, Sahu was sitting on Jain, slashing her face. Police overpowered him and carried the woman to hospital.

Police spokesperson Tehzeeb Qazi said Sahu had been charged with murder.
