    In her policy address this month, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Carrie Lam has stated that her government will submit proposals the legislature to “ban the import, manufacture, sale, distribution and advertisement of e-cigarettes and other new smoking products” to safeguard public health. Traditional cigarettes will not be affected by this proposed ban.

    E-cigarettes, up until very recently, were not FDA approved and were not bound by safety standards set forth by the FDA, so e-cigarette companies were, and still are, allowed to advertise these products as “risk-free.” This article was published this month, so even with the new regulations happening in the United States, companies can still advertise them as low-risk.
