the spill motion is not in Australian law, it is an internal party notion

This story is no longer accurate. It mixes up the two contests. The original one was a contest between turnbull and dutton, which turnbull won by 7 votes. He claimed victory and tried to keep government. He did not resign or see this win by seven votes as a vote of no confidence. It was the second call for a vote, two days later, which he took as a “vote of no confidence”. He therefore did not contest the second vote, leaving a three way contest between dutton, bishop and Morrison, in which morrison prevailed.

Can you make a quick edit to clarify? I’d do it based on what you’ve said but since I’ve not been following this story closely enough, I’m afraid I’ll make a mess of it!

This entire article is a shambles. I’ve made multiple points in comment form on the shared facebook post and there is more to be made or much more information to be added to give the right picture of the story at hand. I don’t quite understand how this article could be so inaccurate, but it is. Can we please just start again?

My issue is that i don’t understand how the basic skeleton of this news story is worse than what is outlined in mainstream Australian news.
There was rumblings of a dutton leadership bid. Turnbull surprised them all by calling a surprise spill of the party leadership, party deputy leadership, and prime minstership, to which he won and he took it as a victory and the end of the matter. dutton tried to rally support to force another spill with better numbers by calling around. Turnbull demanded that a petition have no less than 43 signatures on it before he would officially call a party room meeting and if a spill was carried he would not contest the spill. the petition was signed by 3 MPs that didnt want a spill but needed to have this issue resolved somehow so they signed it for the party meeting to take place. The vote for a spill was opened up by the prime minister and the spill motion was carried 45 to 40 which meant that turnbull then spilled the leadership of the party leadership, party deputy leadership, and prime ministership. Turnbull held off the vote for days with his petition demand which gave scott morrison time to rally support for himself as the new leader and who turnbull would back as the face of loyalty within the party. There is so much to this story, but i am very surprised even the bare bones are so inaccurate.

My issue is i dont understand how an article can start that bad or atleast be published in such a broken whispered form. If this isnt resolved within 12 hrs i will rewrite the whole narrative. Its 542am and its bed time ha

I think it needs a bit more work than that. Approach depends if we want to get it out while the contest is still up in the air or wait and see who the new PM is so we can profile them.
