Australia’s prime minister Malcolm Turnbull narrowly survived a leadership challenge by Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton on Tuesday, government officials said.
Turnbull defeated Dutton 48-35 in the party-room vote for the leadership of the Liberal Party which came after a fall in opinion poll ratings. (Reuters)
Despite the win, political commentators said Turnbull was “mortally wounded” in the struggle to hold on to power (ABC).
Dutton did not rule out a second attempt at the leadership (Sydney Morning Herald).
