Two people died after a shooting incident in the city of Toronto, Canada (CBC) on Sunday July 22. An 18-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl were shot dead in an apparently random attack in the Greektown area. Another 13 people were injured.
The gunman is also dead, either by his own hand or shot by police.
Authorities are investigating possible motives for the attack. A statement from his family said the shooter, Faisal Hussain, 29, had a history of mental illness.

There has been a recent increase in gun violence in Canada’s biggest city. The Globe and Mail news site reported that, prior to this weekend, there had been 220 shootings, which would make 2018 a record year if this rate continues. There was also a spike in shootings in 2005, described by some sections of the media as the “Year of the Gun.” In response, over the weekend, Toronto police increased their presence around the city.
