Maine man, 95, fights off rabid fox

A 95-year-old man in Brunswick, Maine, used a broken plank to fend off and kill a rabid fox (Press Herald).

Robert Galen had been repairing his deck, and picked up one broken plank when he looked up and saw a mature fox.

“I’d been aware of the rabies incidents in Brunswick so I almost instinctively hit this animal on the head with the club I had, fortunately, in my hand,” he told the Press Herald.

A Maine warden took away the dead fox, and on June 26 the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention notified him the animal had tested positive for rabies.
