Microsoft is acquiring software development platform GitHub for $7.5 billion in stock in a deal announced by both companies on Monday.
This is Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s second big acquisition, following the $26.2 billion acquisition of LinkedIn two years ago. (The Verge)
GitHub is a code repository that 28 million developers contribute to. Apple, Amazon, Google, and many other big tech companies use GitHub.
GitHub raised $350 million (Crunchbase) and the company was valued at about $2 billion in 2015 (Bloomberg).
