- 10 – Israel said it hit almost all of Iran’s military capabilities in Syria with airstrikes hours after Iranian rockets targeted Israeli military positions in the occupied Golan Heights (The Guardian). Israel’s military said it struck weapons depots, logistics sites, and intelligence bases in response to what it says were 20 rockets fired at its positions by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard from inside Syria. Iran did not immediately comment on the events.
- Israel has previously vowed to put a stop to any Iranian military buildup in neighboring Syria. Tehran has provided extensive military support to President Bashar Al-Assad during Syria’s civil war. Israeli defense minister Avigdor Lieberman said: “We hit nearly all the Iranian infrastructure in Syria … They need to remember the saying that if it rains on us, it’ll storm on them. I hope we’ve finished this episode and everyone understood.” (The Guardian)
- Syrian state news agency, Sana, said “dozens of missiles were shot down by anti-aircraft systems in Syrian airspace,” (AFP), although also reported that several air defense battalions, radar systems, and an ammunition depot were hit.
