“Direct primary care means health insurance is for emergencies only” is not what the story says, which is ““Chronically ill patients need to have the good insurance coverage,” says Feyman.” and “Direct Primary Care doesn’t cover expenses outside a doctor’s office, such as hospitalization. So, even strident DPC advocates recommend their patients enroll in some sort of health insurance policy to cover treatment beyond the scope of a general practitioner.”

It is quite incorrect to suggest that the only alternatives are DPC in a doctor’s office and emergency treatment in hospital. There are chronic conditions, requiring long-term or repeated hospital care, and there are procedures that are important but not emergencies such as hip replacement requiring hospitalisation.

I’ll remove “Direct primary care means health insurance is for emergencies only” as a highlight. It’s meant to show that people with high-deductible plans are increasingly enrolling in DPC for routine medical coverage. Their insurance then defaults to an emergency-only situation.

But as Feyman said, this leaves out people with pre-existing conditions who might need regular access to a hospital.

people in many states live off of the medical assistance program and do not have cash for gym memberships or physician memberships. Systemwide changes do need to occur it is awesome this position is able to step outside of the contemporary constraints of providing care based on what insurance company will authorize.
