Hacker who 'turned in' Chelsea Manning found dead at 37

Adrian Lamo, the hacker who turned in Army whistle-blower Chelsea Manning to the FBI, has died at 37, police in Kansas and his family announced. Lamo was described by his enemies as the “world’s most hated hacker “ (The Guardian) for giving evidence leading to the conviction of Manning, who was jailed for a vast leak of United States diplomatic cables.

Lamo’s father Mario confirmed the death of his son in a Facebook post. Associated Press reported local authorities as confirming Lamo’s body was in the Wichita morgue. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Lamo testified that Manning had contacted him because he was a noted hacker some time after sharing the material with Wikileaks (No association with WikiTribune). The Guardian reported that Lamo regretted Manning’s ultimate conviction and thought of Manning “every day”.
