Seems odd that this page appears to be headed “disasters”. Earthquake, yes; hurricane, yes; U.S. healthcare back on agenda …?

That’s probably because “Disasters” was the first category alphabetically – in future something like “World Affairs” can be selected as the main category

Editors, is this the preferred forum for us to communicate right now, or should I be using Slack?

Hi, folks, I too am new to this, so please pardon my ignorance. Just a small point: Should we update the “published” date to reflect that it’s today’s news? Right now it says Sept. 19. Cheers, Pete Young/San Francisco

Hi Pete – thanks for catching that. Charles started it last night and I forgot to change the date when I updated the time – changed now.

I’m also new here as a community volunteer. Is there a slack chat I’m not aware of? I’m familiar with slack but I never heard of it being used for Wikitribune. Is it only for staff members?

      Thanks!

We do have a slack here – but we’ll be migrating away from it the closer we get to launch so talking here is better! You should have had the link in your welcome email? Either way.

Hi, I think we’re currently not using Slack as our main communication as we’re trying to use these talk pages – that way everything is in the open. As you can see it’s pretty early stages

Potential workflow issue here. I think Charles (NY) updated the briefing thinking it was yesterday’s?
Therefore some of it (the update – Trump, Kenya) has been replicated from yesterday? I might be wrong

No, I see Charles noted in his edit that he was adding the old briefing. The impression I get is that this puts older news top?

I am new around here so not entirely sure how you go about dealing with developing stories like these, but Mexican officials say the death toll is now 94 in today’s earthquake, as of the time I’m writing this.

Here is a source, do with it what you would like: http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/L/LT_MEXICO_EARTHQUAKE_THE_LATEST?SITE=MTBIL&SECTION=INTERNATIONAL&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

Hi Alboe, thanks for your input. The death toll has risen to 248, according to Mexico’s national coordinator for civil protection, Luis Felipe Puente. He’s a good source to keep an eye on for this story. Here’s his Twitter account: https://twitter.com/LUISFELIPE_P
