Whatever the reasons regarding historical situations in and around the causes and meanings of the Vietnam war have been discussed in great detail. Flash forward to the first middle eastern gulf war and how the military controlled much of the information flowing out to the public in that war. It’s what a person hears, (during any war, remember the media mantra ‘the truth stops when the shooting starts’), not what they don’t hear, so the solution to that war was seen in the media as a victory to the public. Not much historical middle eastern cultural information, if any, was reported to the public. Some reporting of the era brought up who the allies and enemies were and tried to describe the culture of allies de-emphasizing various inconvenient human rights violations by both ally and enemy. After this era came the second gulf war and I don’t think we need a Conkrite to tell us how that turned out, it’s an ongoing civil and religious hatred series of wars in Iraq and it’s neighbors, with certain media outlets identifying current middle east wars as proxy wars for other middle eastern nations and other proxies war hosts far from the middle east. Also, a little reporting as to the historical partitioning of the middle east helped to contribute to later conflicts after WW-1. The absence of information is the ongoing misinformation regarding worldwide conflicts. True, the promoting of news falsehoods is the other gasoline on growing misinformation, the current president of USA being the chief practitioner of all manner of vitriol and false statements that due to his position is effectively a maelstrom of misinformation.
