I definitely require some numbers to back up this story. Based on the average wage and utility costs of Sudan (numbeo.com), a single bitcoin transaction costs around the same as an entire month’s utilities, and that is unlikely to result in widespread usage. Perhaps other cryptocurrencies are being utilised but there is nothing which supports that assertion other than mentioning Ethereum in the post.
Fevered interest in a meetup group appears to be the main source and having attended such meetings in the past, I have not found them to be reliable sources of wider interest.
I would be happy to see some numbers in this piece.
How much these people are able to earn, is it significant part of their income, are there any local markets or exchange points??
More of where Bitcoin is used and where it is much much better than local currency options (Bitcoin vs. Euro isn’t a clear winner, but elsewhere in the world it might be).
Hi Mohamed, I’ve given your piece a first look. Are you able to email me transcripts of the interviews you conducted so I can verify the quotes? Email is: [email protected]. I feel like the piece needs more of a human focus: what are the use cases of cryptocurrencies being used in Sudan? Can you provide some more examples of why people got into crypto, how they’re using it, what they use it for, etc. Thanks, Linh.
I’m trying to reach out to some ordinary people who are adopting Bitcoin to interview them. is it possible to CC you? I will use the questions you suggested.
Bitcoin is widely seen as a bubble or even a ripoff scheme. Is it wise to promote this in a country like Sudan?

Hi, we’re working to get some backup numbers for this piece, thanks.
